Joints are the areas where two or more bones meet. They are in charge of the movements we make. A harm or injury to our joints can interfere with our movement and lead to severe pain.
There are many conditions that can lead to painful joints, including gout, bursitis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and sprains.
It is estimated that one-third of the adults suffer from joint pain.
Knee pain is the most common problem, followed by the shoulder joint and the hip. Joint pain can affect any area of our body, including the ankles, feet, shoulders and hands.
As we get older, our body becomes prone to this type of pain.
Joint pain may vary from mild to severe. It may last for a few days or weeks (acute), or for few months (chronic). This type of pain or swelling can impact your quality of living.
There are certain foods that can cause joint pain. To protect yourself and to prevent joint pain, make sure to avoid these types of foods:
You know that chocolates, doughnuts and other sweets are a guilty pleasure, but if you suffer from joint pain you are highly recommended to stay away from them.
Highly processed sugars actually induce the discharge of cytokines-inflammation messengers. This includes sugars in sodas, candy, chocolate, and cereals as well. The excessive consumption of sugar can put pressure on the joints and cause weight gain.
2. Monosodium Glutamate
MSG or monosodium glutamate is a flavor-enhancing ingredients found in the soy sauce and Asian meals.
Also, it can be found in pre-prepared soups, sauces, junk food meals, salad dressings, deli meat, and soup blends. MSG causes inflammatory reactions in the body and worsens the pain in your joints.
3. Alcoholic Beverages
The excessive consumption of alcohol is very harmful to your joint pain. Beers contains purines that are converted into uric acid crystals in the body, which can cause damage to your joints. Light beer also has gluten, which is bad for delicate joints.
4. Refined Carbs
White flour goods, bread with crackers, white colored potatoes, white colored rice, and cereals are refined carbs.
It has been shown that highly processed carbs are the major cause of obesity and other chronic diseases. These foods have high glycemic index. To be more specific, they stimulate the creation of AGE, which leads to inflammation.
5. Red-Colored and Processed Meat
Red-colored and processed meats contain purine and nitrate, chemicals which can only worsen the pain and inflammation in your body.
It has been shown that red-colored and highly processed meats can cause swelling and contribute to the development of cancer.
6. Dairy Goods
Dairy products have been shown as an inflammatory meal for most people. According to many studies, most of the adults have difficulties digesting dairy, no matter if they are aware of this or not.
The long-term consumption of dairy can cause an inflammatory reaction. People suffering from joint pain are recommended to avoid milk products.
Many packed and pre-made meals have high amounts of salt and other preservatives. Refined sodium contains additives and chemicals which can only disrupt the actual fluid equilibrium in the body.
Avoid junk food and microwaveable servings. Replace the common table salt and start using Pink Himalayan salt.
8. Corn Oils
Usually, snack foods and baked goodies are packed with corn oil and other natural oils that contain omega-6 essential fatty acids.
It has been scientifically proven that these oils have the ability to lead to swelling. So, make sure to stay away from peanuts, soy, grape seeds oil and dressings for salad.
Go for substitute meals made up of omega-6 acids with much healthier anti-inflammatory omega-3 alternative oils like nut products, olive oil, flax seed, and pumpkin seed products.
