According to naturopath Peter J. D’Adamo, being on a diet based on your blood type (A, B, AB, or O) can actually help you become healthier.
D’Adamo says that different foods have a different chemical reactions relative one’s blood type, and if you stick to a diet that is appropriate for your blood type, it will not only help your body absorb food easily, but also promote healthy weight loss, reduce the risk of diseases, and give you energy.
1. Type O
Blood type-O individuals flourish on animal protein, strenuous physical exercise, and absorb meat easily due to their high stomach-acid content, so when people with this blood type consume animal proteins they can rest assured that their bodies will function properly without causing any unnecessary stress to the body.
Blood type-O individuals should consume meats, fish, alkaline fruits like plums and berries and chemical-free poultry, but avoid as much intake as possible of foods like breads, beans, grains, dairy products, legumes, nightshade vegetables, and vegetables from the Brassica family (cauliflower, cabbage, etc.)
2. Type A
People with blood type-A are recommended vegetarian diets that includes soy proteins, lots of fresh vegetables, and grain. Moreover, individuals with this blood type should consume as much organic and natural food as possible.
The reason for this, explains Dr. Peter D’Adamo, is because type-A blood appeared approximately at the same time people started to settle and live a more agricultural-based lifestyle.
These individuals are much more susceptible to diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, so following a vegetarian diet with organic, fresh foods is crucial for their frail immune systems.
Some of the foods blood type-A people should consume include fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and beans.
Do, however, steer clear of, or consume in moderation such foods as eggs, meat, poultry, dairy products, and fish.
3. Type B:
Blood type B individuals are best following a balanced omnivore diet with lots of plant-based foods and meats.
Some of the foods blood type-B people should consume are lamb, beef, salmon, cod, dairy, vegetables, fruit, and olive oil.
Foods to avoid include tomatoes, peanuts, wheat, corn, lentils, buckwheat, and sesame seeds.
4. Type AB
Blood type-AB is quite rare and new, and it is estimated that less than 5% of the population have this blood type. As the name suggests, blood type-AB is the result of the combination of Type A with Type B and includes both the advantages and negative aspects of these two blood types.
Individuals with blood type-AB must stay away from caffeine and alcohol, particularly in stressful situations, and regularly consume smaller meals.
People with blood type-AB are recommended seafood, green vegetables, tofu, dairy, cultured dairy, and alkaline fruits; and avoid as much as possible foods like smoked or cured meats, corn, chicken, and shellfish.
