According to the latest report of the Environmental Working Group, individuals who indulge in non-organic foods are likely to ingest 67 pesticides. Fresh produce is always a better and healthier option than processed goods. If by any chance you did not know it, non-organic processed foods are abundant in chemicals, too!
The aforementioned group is a nonprofit organization focused on public health. They scoured about 100,000 produce pesticide reports from the US Department of Agriculture and FDA so they could determine which products are highest in chemical residue, and which are on the safe side.
Pesticides are associated with developmental issues in children. Some of them act as carcinogens, and others affect the endocrine system. This was stated in the report of the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Pesticides and herbicides contaminate water and soil. This causes issues in soil structure and triggers erosion. Experts say that this may contribute to the “colony collapse disorder,” or a sudden and mysterious death of honeybees.

Can you wash pesticides away?
Well, not necessarily. The tests we already mentioned were done on foods that had already been power-washed by the USDA. Even though some of the pesticides are stuck on the surface of the food, others have penetrated through the root into the plant itself, and any removal would be impossible.
Regardless of whether fresh products are cultivated with or without dangerous chemicals, make sure you wash them well to remove dirt and life-threatening bacteria. Health experts suggest opting for organic produce when it comes to the Dirty Dozen list, of course when possible.
